President Trump took to the podium on Wednesday morning following Iranian missile strikes aimed at bases housing American troops and promised “punishing economic sanctions” against Iran.
As predicted by many, the lack of American casualties gave President Trump a perfectly good “off ramp” to avoid yet another war in the Middle East.
During his speech, the president said that we should all be “grateful and happy” to know that no American or Iraqi soldier lives were lost in the strikes (just how bad are Iranians at aiming?).
President Trump also condemned former president Barack Obama for giving Iran “billions” of dollars that were used to buy those missiles.
“Iran’s hostility substantially increased after the foolish Iran nuclear deal was signed in 2013,” President Trump said. “And they were given $150 billion, not to mention $1.8 billion in cash.”
The president stated that although the United States has an unparalleled military force, “we do not want to use it”.
“American strength, both military and economic, is the best deterrent.”
