Eight people were stabbed or slashed by a madman wielding a knife in downtown Colorado Springs early Monday morning, according to local CBS affiliate KKTV.
Police say that in a span of about half an hour, the attacker injured numerous people in multiple locations along trails near I-25. He was stopped by victims who were able to overpower him, and hold him down until police were able to arrive.
“Officers and medical personnel respond there. … The two victims stated that they were attacked and then [the suspect] ran off down the trail,” CSPD Sgt. Shawn Peterson told 11 News.
“As we proceeded along the trail, we found several other people that the suspect came in contact with and had also assaulted. We ended up getting another call for service or several other calls for service with regards to injured victims. Several were at America the Beautiful Park that also runs along that Santa Fe Trail. We then proceeded to that location and were getting medical to all the victims there,” Peterson added.
Peterson says that the man was looking for people to hurt while he was fleeing police. “Everywhere he was going, he was trying to come in contact with people and he was injuring them.”
“We were scouring the downtown area to include the parks and the trails looking for the suspect. It wasn’t until some citizens who were dealing with the victims were able to give us a lot more detail where we were able to locate where the suspect was en route to, and we were able to stop him from hurting anybody else.”
Around 2 a.m. police were called to an area where they ultimately found the attacker, and apprehended him.

Police say that everyone injured by the attacker were taken to the hospital, and treated. Most of the victims were men, with at least one being a woman.
The suspect’s identity has not been released by police, but they believe he was working alone.
A few things: where are the calls for “knife control”? Why isn’t Elizabeth Warren calling for a national knife registry? Would a gun have prevented someone from being a victim of a madman with a knife? Why won’t police reveal the identity of a man suspected of stabbing multiple people in multiple locations?
