Russia, Russia, Russia.
Once again the “evil boogeymen” over in Moscow have done the unthinkable: they’ve hacked a corrupt organization.
A plethora of media outlets report that GRU, the Russian military intelligence group behind the phishing scheme of Jon Podesta that led to DNC emails being leaked in 2016, have struck again, this time hitting the Ukrainian gas company.
Hacking attempts began in early November against the company on whose board former Vice President Joe Biden’s son sat, the Times reported. At the same time, the House was investigating a phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during which Trump asked Zelensky to investigate the Bidens.
Security experts told the Times the hackers’ findings, as well as what they were looking for, remain unclear, but the timing indicates they could have been in search of the same sort of potentially embarrassing material on the family Trump sought when he asked Zelensky to launch the investigation…
The hackers successfully secured login credentials from some employees and successfully infiltrated one of the company’s servers, according to Area 1, the California-based security company that first caught wind of the hack.
House Speaker Pelosi issued a strange statement, inferring that these hacks were done to somehow benefit Donald Trump.
“The alarming reports that the Russian Government is continuing to interfere in our elections to benefit the President and to undermine our democracy highlight the urgent need for action,” she begins her statement that has nothing to do with the election, but rather a gas company in Ukraine. “For months, our intelligence and law enforcement officials have made clear that the Russians ‘interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion’ and are now launching a ‘365-days-a-year threat’ to compromise the 2020 elections – yet the President has refused to take meaningful action to strengthen our election security.”
For those who don’t remember, Russians didn’t vote in our election. They ran some Facebook and Twitter ads, and exposed how the DNC was rigged in favor of Hillary Clinton. But they didn’t cast any ballots.
On the other hand, Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats are strong opponents of voter ID laws. If anyone is trying to undermine the election process, it’s the party that isn’t making sure only citizens can vote.
Pelosi goes on and on about “elections,” but again, this wasn’t a hack of any election. It was a private company in Ukraine. If anything she should be happy because now Democrats can say “well, how do we know the Russians didn’t plant that information?” Of course, Nancy and crew don’t think that far ahead, and have to issue this rush-job statement that only highlights the woman only heard the words “hack” and “Russia” when briefed.
She concludes:
“The President and every Republican Senator must explain to the American people why they are refusing to defend our national security and the integrity of our elections. We only learned of this hacking through the press. Congress must be briefed on what the Administration knows about this attack and why the President doesn’t have a plan to protect our elections.”
Her statement doesn’t even mention the words “Ukraine” or “Burisma”. Either that’s done intentionally (doubtful), or she has no clue what’s going on, but felt that this was potentially some sort of “gotcha” moment.
