Virginia Governor Ralph Northam issued a state of emergency from January 17-21, amid plans by law abiding gun owners to hold a rally at the state’s Capitol on the Monday.
The measure will temporarily ban guns from the Capitol grounds in Richmond, according to CBS. No word as to whether or not this law applies to government workers, or if this only applies to the peasants who pay their salaries.
Americans who give a damn about the Constitution had been planning to hold a rally on January 20, but Northam says there are “credible threats” of violence being made online.
“These are considered credible and serious threats,” Northam said. “This intel comes from mainstream channels both off line and online such as alternative dark web channels used by white nationalists outside of Virginia. These are fueled by misinformation and conspiracy theories. No one wants another incident like the one we saw in Charlottesville in 2017. We will not allow that mayhem and violence.”
Charlottesville, for those who don’t remember, was a bunch of people protesting the removal of a statue. A lady got hit by a car in the street, and tragically lost her life.
To compare the two ignores the fact that this isn’t a statue being removed. It’s a person’s second amendment right.
There are a lot more people who care about gun ownership than a freaking statue.
The BEST way for the governor to avoid people from marching on the Capitol is to not pass legislation restricting ownership of firearms. Since that won’t happen, the only peaceful recourse is to hold a protest.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League, VCDL, a group that describes itself as a “non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to advancing the fundamental human right of all Virginians to keep and bear arms,” plans on holding a rally. Northam said he respects the rights of Virginians to protest and speak their mind about the gun control bills, but emphasized that he will not condone any threat of violence.
He called on the VCDL and other gun rights groups to stick to peaceful protests.
“I call on them to disavow anyone who wishes to use Monday’s rally to advance a violent agenda,” Northam said. “Hate, intimidation and violence have no place here.”
The Democratic Governor wants people to disavow events that haven’t even happened yet… The guy has lost his mind.
Obviously the people planning to protest want peace. The reason they own guns is because they recognize there are people out there who don’t want peace, and they’d rather not be a victim, or at least give themselves a fighting chance.
Again, will Northam have his security unarmed during this “state of emergency”, or are these laws only for the rest of us?
