Proud American patriots are planning a rally on the Grounds of the state Capitol in Virginia, and the people in power are scared for their lives.
Democratic Governor Ralph Northam is set to declare an emergency allowing him to temporarily ban people from carrying firearms near the Capitol, according to a report from the Associated Press.
Northam’s planned announcement comes days after Democratic leaders used a special rules committee to ban guns inside the Capitol and a legislative office building. That ban did not include Capitol grounds, which are under the governor’s control and are where a huge number of gun-rights advocates are expected to rally Monday.
One official said Northam decided to ban all guns from the grounds of Capitol Square after receiving reports for weeks about inflammatory online postings by out-of-state pro-gun and militia groups who are promising to attend Monday’s rally.
The official said the state does not have intelligence that the groups are planning a specific act of violence, but said Northam has grown increasingly concerned about numerous ominous-sounding postings on social media from forces outside Virginia. The official cited one posting that included a photo of an AR-15 with a caption that said there are “great sight angles from certain buildings” near Capitol Square.
Okay, first of all, the jackass that’s posting about shooting from “certain buildings” isn’t helping. I’m sure he (or she, but we all know it’s a guy) is sitting there thinking “I said ‘sight angles’ not ‘shooting angles'” but we all know the reaction he was going for… Good job, that’s why people think gun owners are crazy.
While it’s stupid for people to post such things to social media, (even if it is just for laughs) it definitely doesn’t warrant a “gun ban”. If anything, all it does is ensure that a group of gun owners will be in one place completely defenseless, because these people tend to follow the law.
The AP makes sure to tie gun owners to “white supremacy” by bringing up the riot that happened in Charlottesville nearly three years ago, as if to say the two groups are somehow linked…
Virginia law enforcement officials have been criticized for their planning and response to a deadly 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville that involved heavily armed protesters. One woman was killed and several more were injured when a car plowed into a group of counter-protesters.
The left has been doing this for quite some time. They take one action by one guy at a rally, and say “see! Everyone there is to blame!” Now, we have law-abiding citizens who merely want to see their God-given rights upheld, and news outlets want to connect them with a small group of white supremacists that have been repeatedly condemned by just about every Republican and conservative.
Now, the media is trying to shape the narrative before protestors even show up. Once you see the bills the state’s Senate just approved, you might decide to join them.
On party line votes, committee Democrats approved a one handgun per month purchase limit, universal background checks for gun sales, a red flag law to seize guns from those who pose a danger and allowing local governments to ban guns at certain events, according to NBC 4.
“For the first time in decades, commonsense gun safety measures are finally advancing in the Virginia legislature,” Northam said on Twitter. “This is the first step in the process — Virginians are demanding real action on gun violence, and they are watching.”
As it stands, more than 100 counties, cities and towns have declared themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries and vowed to oppose any new “unconstitutional restrictions” on guns. Democrats in Virginia have threatened to call in the National Guard, and demanded the resignation of local sheriffs if the new laws aren’t enforced.
