“Good Men” Have Been Doing Nothing For Too Long

A quote by British philosopher John Stuart Mill has been butchered over the years, but it goes like this:

“Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.”

Modern day, it’s closer to “bad guys win when good guys do nothing,” but the sentiment isn’t new or profound. Which is why it’s frustrating to see so many people standing on the fence, and refuse to take a hardline position on any issue.

There’s nothing noble about sitting in the middle. If anything, it highlights how uninformed one is. There’s a reason we are told not to talk religion or politics in public: people generally have no clue about either subject. That’s a problem.

Society as a whole does a pretty good job of demonizing anyone who strays away from the middle, often times referring to them as “extremists” or some type of “wing”, and that causes folks to think twice about leaving the herd of not having to think for one’s self.

A lot of times you’ll hear “people are too busy to pay attention,” or “there’s too much going on,” but you can bet your ass a lot of these same people know their team’s latest scores, or what happened on the shows they’re binge watching for the seventh time while scrolling on Instagram.

If you want to sit in the middle, fine. Good for you. Nobody blames you for taking the intellectually lazy way out.

While I vehemently disagree with people on the left, at least they stand for something. Sure, that “something” is killing babies in the womb and promoting degeneracy to kids, but at least they have some kind of backbone. People in the middle are just, there… They merely exist and take what the world allows them to have.

Michael O’Fallon, founder of Sovereign Nations, is quoted by the folks at Pulpit and Pen having said “the theological and doctrinal downfall of nearly every major protestant denomination has been facilitated by the polite middle who avoid conflict and eventually turn on the conservative, biblical, confessional and orthodox.”

Pastor JD Hall, who penned the piece at P&P, also condemned the “polite middle” on his personal Facebook page:

Listen. There are people on the right, and we will fight until the bloody end because we believe truth.

Then there are people on the left who will fight until the bloody end because they believe lies.

And then there are about 90% remaining who think they’re virtuous and on the moral high ground for staying out of the fight.

They are not virtuous. They are not moral. They are awful and should get out of the way.

It’s hard to disagree with Pastor Hall, who says that “in times of crisis and pivotal importance, those who insist on being in the middle – which is obviously the popular position, because that’s where the popular position always is – are truly useless to the cause of righteousness.” The folks who rest in the middle, refusing to take a stand for good, allow wickedness to grow.

Hall uses an “elephant herd” analogy to say those in the middle rely on the people on the outside for protection, but I like to think of it in more drastic terms. This is war.

Sure, the war is cultural, and one of ideas, but it’s a war nonetheless. There are people who are willing to lend their voice to the truth, but too many, FAR too many, are fine with sitting on the sidelines watching, and hoping for the best.

The conservative movement, the movement supporting Christian values, won’t last so long as people are okay with “hoping” for the best to work out. “The best” won’t happen so long as self-described “decent people” sit around waiting.

Voting is great. Voting doesn’t shape the culture. Speaking out against evil, as unpopular as it may be, is the least we can do.

Obviously, I know not everyone reading this is “doing nothing”. I have friends in the military. I have friends who serve in law enforcement. I have a crazy buddy who fights fires. I’m surrounded by good people constantly doing good things, but as we can clearly see, it’s not enough.

Society is decaying, which means there are a lot of people who need to hear this message. Whether it’s fear holding them back, or merely ignorance, the time to start fighting back is now.

Equip yourself with knowledge, and join the movement.
