We live in the best country in the history of the world, but for some reason a lot of Americans are offended when they hear that.
You know the type. They say things like “what about slavery,” or “what about the native Americans,” and there’s not a lot of people out there saying those were good things. In fact, most people would acknowledge those were bad things when we apply today’s moral and societal standards to those living in the 18th and 19th centuries.
At the very least, we have to give credit to the fact that most reasonable people are aware such things occurred (although they aren’t nearly as quick to bring up FDR putting Asian Americans in camps).

There are groups of people around the world who are just now learning about the atrocities committed by their own countries. Mein Kampf has sold millions of copies after being reprinted for the first time since WWII, but it’s not because people want to learn how to be Nazis. People just want to understand their nation’s history in hopes to avoid mistakes made in the past.
The fact that the United States doesn’t actively censor people for disagreeing with the government is cause for celebration, but it’s hardly what sets us apart from the rest of the world.

We have a country that provides everyone with the freedom to become whatever they want, so long as they put in the work. While the rest of the world seems to have “collectivist” thinking, where everyone is reliant on society, America stands for “individualism” in a way like no place on earth does.
John F. Kennedy famously said “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country,” but if you ask people what that means they either won’t have a clue, or they will say he was wrong.

America became a world power because people were working together for the greater good of the country. They weren’t looking for ways to benefit from the country via government programs. There was a sense of self reliance that has been lost, thanks in large part to people from collectivist societies moving in by the literal boatloads.
Now, children are being taught from a young age that they are victims. If they are black, they are victims of racism. If they are poor, they are victims of a previous generation. If they can’t read, they are victims of an oppressive system.

There’s no sense of self-ownership, which is why so many young people feel no ownership of their own country. They see adults blaming everyone else for their problems, so they see no reason to take on challenges themselves.

The underdog is the embodiment of the American spirit. With the odds stacked up against them, underdogs find a way to defy the nay-sayers and do the unthinkable.
Once upon a time, America was the underdog of the world. A group of colonists decided to take on one of the largest empires on earth, and they won. Thinking that it wouldn’t last long, the British would attack the young nation again, only to be defeated once more.
The country’s founding was built on struggle, and a belief in liberty, but we seem to have forgotten that. Now, we have an entire generation being taught that it’s the government’s responsibility to provide health insurance, and food, and literally everything individuals are capable of getting on their own.
It’s easy to understand why so many young voters are gravitating to socialists like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren: they wouldn’t be the one’s footing the bill.
These people clearly haven’t read JFK’s quote, or simply don’t understand it, because their rhetoric leads one to believe America owes them something. Let me assure you, it does not.
Still, the kids (and a lot of lonely purple-haired cat ladies) on the left say that “America was never great”, and take offense when you say different.
In a move to appease these anti-American idiots, Democrats have done their part to remove any semblance of American pride from their party.
They praise foreigners who break our immigration laws. They promise to expand the ability to kill American babies in the womb. They cheer as they impeach an elected president.
They say they’ll pass laws banning firearms while simultaneously talking about defending the Constitution. They say anyone who doesn’t want a confederate statue removed is a “white supremacist”. They call parents who don’t want children exposed to LGBT content “bigots”.
They demand Christians bakers create elaborate cakes celebrating sin. They tell churches they have to pay for abortions, and will have to start paying taxes if they don’t promote homosexuality. They promote lifestyles that fly in the face of the values this country was founded on.
Ultimately, the reason Democrats seem to hate America is that America was founded on individualism. Essentially, we as individuals choose to participate in this wonderful country called the United States. Democrats, and liberals in general, believe in collectivism, or the idea that we have no choice, we just have to be cogs in the machine, and accept it.
This is why there’s no pride from these people. They see that folks have the freedom to live how they want, and they don’t like it. They think “hey, you have something, so you should have to give it up,” but that’s not how real Americans are supposed to think. Real Americans see that someone has something, and say “what do I have to do to get that too.”
People are offended by American pride because they understand what it means, and they don’t like it. They don’t want to live in a country where they have to work for what they want, they just expect to get it. They don’t understand the pride that comes with working hard for something, and it shows.
Proud Americans understand what it took to build this great country. They understand the work it takes to keep it going. Sure, we have our flaws, but name one nation with a spotless history.

So don’t think twice about waving those American flags, or putting that bald eagle bumper sticker on the back of your car. Have some pride in your country. After all, it’s the best country in the world.
