Law-abiding citizens in the commonwealth of Virginia are seeing their second amendment right being infringed upon by state legislatures, and Republican lawmakers are doing everything they can to stop it.
As reported earlier this week, Virginia’s Governor Northam has declared a state of emergency at the Capitol in response to protests set to take place on Monday.
Citing “online threats,” the governor has banned the possession of any firearms near the Capitol effective immediately, and extending until the January 21.
One Virginia Delegate took his colleagues to task during a meeting earlier this week, claiming they are telling Americans “you can’t defend yourself.”
“My simple response to that is, who assumes responsibility for their security at that point?” Virginia Delegate Nicholas Freitas asked. “If something bad happens, are the members who vote to disarm law abiding citizens now going to take responsibility for the security if something bad happens to them?”
“Because if they’re not, I think there’s a problem with that.”
Freitas said Democrats need to take responsibility for their desire to take guns, and not blame Capitol police for claiming the state needs to declare a state of emergency.
“As someone who grew up in a law enforcement household I know that law enforcement has to live at the business end of everything that we do,” Freitas continued. “So if it’s your idea, and your policy, and you think it’s a good idea to disarm law-abiding citizens, and make them choose whether or not they have the means to protect themselves… fine, then go out there, go out in front of the cameras and say ‘this was our idea, and we think it’s a good one.'”
“But don’t blame the Capitol police for it.”
Freitas’ short speech is definitely worth watching:
