Everyone loves a good laugh, and “gotcha” videos always seem to do the trick.
Campus Reform, a conservative news outlet focused on higher education, released a video of students responding to quotes that they believe are coming from President Trump. Of course, since it’s a “gotcha” video, the quotes are not from the president. In fact, the quotes come from people these students are likely to have professed supporting.
Disclaimer: as much fun as it is to laugh at kids in college looking silly, we have to understand that making college kids look silly is a very easy thing to do.
The video shows students read quotes from what they are led to believe is President Trump’s approved State of the Union speech. After hearing the shock and horror of what is being said, it is revealed that the quotes come from people like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, and the students are absolutely floored.
It’s a pretty smooth operation. Go to a college campus. Find some kids willing to speak on camera without proving they know anything. Tell them the quotes come from President Trump, and then say “ha, I gotcha!” I think I speak for most of us here when I say “I sure do like these videos of kids looking stupid.”
“The other side is going to put y’all back in chains,” says Campus Reform Editor-in-Chief Cabot Phillips, quoting what he says is Donald Trump’s upcoming speech.
“That’s inappropriate,” says one of the students. “That should not be spoken like that.”
Now, we know that Donald Trump never said that. Joe Biden said that. Naturally, a 19 year old didn’t know that, because she’s 19, but she came to the conclusion most of us would: “that’s bad”.
Later in the video the student says “I think people would look at what you just said, and would say ‘oh, my candidate didn’t say that.’… but everyone says questionable things.”
Another student on the video said that a lot of people seem to try and twist everything their political opponent says, which is absolutely true. These kids aren’t that stupid, they’ve simply been misguided.
While it isn’t hard to make kids look stupid on camera, it’s quite brave for guys like Cabot Phillips to go into hostile territory to have a discussion with people who, in large part, tend to disagree in ways that aren’t so polite.
All that being said, I never want these videos to stop. Enjoy:
