Franklin Graham Pushes Vaccine On Evangelicals

The evangelist warns others to get the vaccine “before it’s too late.”

“I want people to know that COVID-19 can kill you,” Franklin Graham told Axios during an interview that was released on HBO. “But we have a vaccine out there that could possibly save your life. And if you wait, it could be too late.”

The son of the famous evangelist Billy Graham, who died in 2018, Franklin’s interview comes at a time where polls show that nearly 45% of white evangelicals say they have no plan to get vaccinated, the highest number of all religious groups polled. In spite of these numbers, Graham argued that evangelicals are probably no more or less likely to be vaccinated than any other group. He also said that many factors could go into a person’s decision to get vaccinated or not, such as a fear of needles (guilty).

During the interview Graham expressed his desire to inform others on the safety of the vaccine, saying that he felt responsible for making sure the “truth” got out. He even went as far as saying the “pro-life” position in this situation would be to get vaccinated.

“To me, there was no question it was safe,” Graham said. “We are leaders in the community, and we have a responsibility to inform them of the truth… Medicine is pro-life.”

Graham has been an outspoken proponent of the Covid-19 vaccines, claiming in a Facebook post that Jesus would approve of getting vaccinated (many have incorrectly reported he said Jesus would receive the vaccine). During his interview with Axios Graham was asked if the Biden administration had reached out to him, to which he said “no”, but that he would be open to working with the CDC and Biden administration if asked.
