Super Bowl Halftime Show Draws Harsh Criticism From Parents And Religious Leaders

Millions upon millions of Americans watched musical artists Shakira and Jennifer Lopez perform during last night’s Super Bowl halftime show, and while many enjoyed the spectacle, a lot of people took offense with the performance.

Naturally, folks in the entertainment industry thought the show was “incredible,” and “powerful” for women, and millions at home felt the same way.

These days, people believe it’s a sign of power for a mother to twirl on a pole nearly naked for the world to see. Now, I’m just a straight male, but if women want to support other women strutting on stage with their ass hanging out, more power to them, but let’s not confuse sex with power.

What kind of “power” was on display last night? Some, like Franklin Graham, would argue that is was the devil at work.

“I don’t expect the world to act like the church,” Graham said in a Facebook post. “But our country has had a sense of moral decency on prime time television in order to protect children.”

“We see that disappearing before our eyes. It was demonstrated tonight in the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show—with millions of children watching. This exhibition was Pepsi showing young girls that sexual exploitation of women is okay. With the exploitation of women on the rise worldwide, instead of lowering the standard, we as a society should be raising it. I’m disappointed in Pepsi and the NFL.”

Since the performers were both women, feminists have deemed this a huge victory for “progress”, but what do performances like this encourage young people to do?

Again, I’m not saying I don’t want attractive women to expose themselves for my pleasure. I’m saying that no parent in the world should want their daughter to watch that performance and say “I want to do that.” No self respecting father would want his daughter to climb up on a pole for the world to see wearing next to nothing.

A lot of people might say I’m “slut shaming,” to which I respond “yes. Sluts feel shame.”

Shame is a good thing. We live in a society that is doing everything it can to eliminate the feeling of shame so that we aren’t able to differentiate between right and wrong. If we don’t shame behaviors, then young people will be encouraged to emulate the actions of those we should have condemned.

Now, we have kids in cages during a halftime performance on the most popular human trafficking night of the year. We have mothers twirling on poles on stage. We have crotch shot after crotch shot of Shakira and J.Lo (again, not complaining, just noticing).

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
-Ephesians 6:12

I’m sorry

but that was so tacky and distasteful that the little children who came out to sing seemed to be shut down when they were just getting started, not to mention they were exposed up close how adults behave tacky….really! Don’t do that trashed up job again especially inviting children to sing.
